FRISCO MOUNT SPORTSTER GAS TANK – STANDARD WIDTH – 2.5 GALLON
Frisco Gas Tank | The Frisco Mount Sportster Gas Tank with a standard width and 2.5-gallon capacity offers a blend of custom style and practicality, especially for Harley-Davidson Sportster models. The Frisco mount positions the tank higher on the bike’s frame, giving it a chopper or bobber aesthetic, while the 2.5-gallon size provides a bit more fuel capacity than the narrow 2.1-gallon options.
Key Features | Buy Frisco Mount Gas Tank Online
- Frisco Mounting:
- The higher mounting position of the Frisco style gives the bike a more aggressive and vintage look, while also creating a more exposed frame and engine area, which many custom builders prefer.
- Standard Width:
- Unlike the narrow versions, the standard-width tank offers a fuller appearance while still maintaining the Frisco style. This adds to the bike’s overall presence without being too bulky.
- 2.5-Gallon Capacity:
- Provides a slightly larger fuel capacity than the 2.1-gallon option, allowing for a better balance between custom style and functional riding range. It’s still more suited for shorter, city rides or custom builds rather than long-distance cruising.
- Material:
- Typically constructed from durable steel, allowing for custom paint jobs and finishes.
- Fitment:
- Designed for Harley-Davidson Sportster models. As with most Frisco mount tanks, installation may require adjustments to the seat and other components to ensure proper fitment. Always check for specific year and model compatibility.
- Vent and Petcock:
- Likely requires a vented gas cap and a petcock, usually a standard 3/8″ NPT or 22mm. Make sure to confirm the required size for your setup.
Installation Considerations:
- Seat Adjustment: As the Frisco mount raises the tank on the frame, the stock seat may need modification or adjustment to fit comfortably and align with the tank.
- Fuel Range: The 2.5-gallon capacity gives you slightly more range than the smaller 2.1-gallon versions but still requires more frequent refueling compared to stock Sportster tanks.
- Aesthetic: The higher mount and standard width can create a more balanced look compared to the narrow version, offering a bit more versatility in styling.
This type of tank is perfect for a custom build or if you’re aiming to give your Sportster a unique, old-school chopper look without completely sacrificing fuel range.
This Sportster Frisco mount gas tank is a very cool motorcycle part and will sit up higher on your backbone than the standard tank. This is the standard width version, which has similar dimensions to a stock Harley-Davidson Sportster gas tank. These 2.5 gallon gas tanks are top quality, heavy gauge steel with an offset gas filler bung that accepts a thread-in Harley-Davidson style gas cap. These tanks feature a single 1/4 inch NPT petcock fitting at the lowest point of the tank for maximum miles on the road.
Pair this tank with a set of Lowbrow Customs Gas Tank Adapter Brackets and this custom gas tank will bolt on 1986 – 2003 Harley-Davidson Sportsters with no fabrication required.
This is far superior to other Frisco Sportster style gas tanks that have a petcock bung on the flat bottom of the gas tank, as when your gas tank is mounted to your frame’s backbone it is at an angle, and this traps a lot of gas which cannot be used as it is below the petcock bung location. This design with the offset petcock bung on the very back of the tank allows you to use all the gas you can fit in there!
Frisco refers to a style of motorcycle that originated in the Bay Area of San Francisco. Typically these ‘Frisco Style’ bikes would have all extraneous parts removed, stripped down to the bare assentials, narrow and nimble. Often the gas tanks would be lifted in the front so that sat up higher, allowing for maximum amount of gasoline usage in the tank. Thus the term Frisco mount, which generally means a very shallow tunnel so the gas tank sits up high on the frame’s backbone.
Note: It is highly recommended to fit your gas tank to your bike before painting. Check for clearance or mounting issues as different combinations of triple trees, risers, and handlebars may cause clearance issues when turning.
